ADAM LUKE WADE
"Hey. My name's Adam Luke Wade. My birthday is January 8, and I'm 21 years old. Let's see, what else do you need to know about me... Well, I'm straight, just girls for me please. I play the trumpet, and I have been since I was nine. It's definitely not a 'cool guy' instrument, but when have I ever pretended that I was cool? I'm really kind of a geek, but that shouldn't scare you off! I promise I'm not going to chew your ear off for hours about obscure Star Wars trivia or anything. I'm not that kind of a geek. I'm more like the type of person who gets excited about marching bands and good books. I work at this camp as a counselor, and this is my first year.
I would have loved to go to this camp when I was younger, but my parents would never have let me, so I never even dreamed of asking. They were pretty strict, and didn't do much to help me on my way to becoming a great musician. I lived in a small town in upstate New York where sports was all anyone cared about. My parents didn't like the fact that I was more interested in the trumpet than in basketball. I was their only child and they wanted to push me into sports so I could get a scholarship and go to a 'good college, just like your dad'. No thank you. While they did succeed in making me play basketball for a while, they couldn't force me into it forever. Once I was in high school, I would tell my parents that I was at basketball practice when I was really at marching band practice. I somehow managed this charade for a fairly long time - they never asked me when my games were or anything because they had no intention of going. They only discovered that I was in marching band when one of my friends slipped up and mentioned it in front of them. Needless to say, it wasn't long before I was forced to quit marching band, and they even sold my trumpet. I knew that as soon as I graduated from high school, I was so out of there. Because I didn't play basketball and therefore didn't get the shiny athletic scholarship my parents wanted, they said they were cutting me off. If I wanted to go to college, I'd have to pay for it on my own.
Since graduating, I've moved around a lot. I lived in New York City for a short time, working as a waiter and trying to save enough money for school. I couldn't stand the tiny apartment and loud city life any longer, so I started looking for a job in the Midwest. I didn't find much, so I moved to the Las Vegas area out of the blue, knowing I could find some kind of a job while I looked around more. It's always easier to find a job when you live in the area, I've noticed. After working as a bartender in a slimy Vegas club for a while, I was finally able to find this job. This is exactly the kind of thing I want to do with my life. And soon, after working at this camp for a while, I will have saved enough money to go to the local community college part time. I eventually want to be a music teacher, but since I'm doing everything on my own, that will take a long time. Once in a while, I hear from my parents. They aren't too happy with some of my choices so far, but maybe one day they can be proud of me for working hard and accomplishing my dreams all on my own.
As for my personality, I would say that I'm self-reliant, uncomplaining, determined, ambitious, a pacifist, kind, a pragmatist, methodical, logical, humble, trustworthy, patient and friendly. I'm also critical of myself and others, narrowly focused, a workaholic, insecure, tense, compulsively honest and a little awkward.
Hmm, so I guess that's enough of that serious stuff. You want to know what my favorite things are? Well, besides the trumpet and all that other music stuff, I like helping people learn new things, laughing, wide open spaces, taking pictures, video games, basically any novel, and meeting new people. I hate sports and selfish, lazy people who have everything they want handed to them.

Luke could tell that Selia didn't immediately trust him. She was so hesitant to extend her hand to take his; it took her twice as long to do so as Luke was expecting. She was so uncertain and nervous; Luke wished he could take that all away from her, making her see how good he was and how he was trying to be even better. Changing diets wasn't exactly a piece of cake, and most vampires would take the easy way out - they would give up. But not Luke. Once he set his mind on something, he wasn't giving up. Just like Selia. He decided that he wanted her to trust him, and he was willing to do whatever it took to make it happen.
When Selia finally decided to take Luke's hand, he was surprised to feel how warm it was - she was definitely warmer than a human, if it wasn't already obvious what she was by her scent. Luke was startled at her reaction - she must have been surprised by how cold he felt to her.
Luke glanced down at their hands just as Selia did the same. He couldn't help but notice how right it felt, holding her hand like this. He didn't want to let go. However, there was a purpose in him doing this, a purpose he wouldn't allow himself to forget about.
He smiled slightly, being careful not to make any sudden movements so Selia wouldn't be startled. "I just want to show you that you can trust me; you seem so hesitant and nervous. You don't have to be. Look..."
Luke slowly raised their intertwined hands closer to his face. Ever so slowly, he leaned down, planting a very light kiss on her hand. He was raised well as a human; his parents taught him all of the good old-fashioned ways of showing politeness, especially to girls. He hoped that this small action wouldn't terrorize the girl - that was the complete opposite of his intent.
Slowly, he let Selia's hand fall, still holding on to it. He took a slight step closer, looking very intently down into her eyes. "I will never hurt you. I need you to understand that."
